Housed inside a former electrical substation next to Newport railway station, steeped in the rich history of Melbourne’s inner west, The Substation is an arts destination unlike any other in Australia. Through its ever-evolving program and artist-led initiatives, The Substation supports the development of ambitious and inclusive works that defy simple categorisation.
Nuala Furtado, The Substation’s current CEO, was appointed in January 2023. She brings to the role a wealth of experience in experimental and contemporary cultural work. Guided by a Community Reference Group and Curatorium of artists, The Substation’s programming continues to encourage transformative conversations between wide-ranging audiences.
